So it failed "emissions" because of a code associated with the battery apparently. He asked if I had jump started it or put a new battery in it recently and I said no I just bought it. He said well get some cold starts and about 150 miles on it and bring it back and the code will be clear. Problem is I've already had several cold starts and have put about 250 on it already. Does anyone know the code hes talking about? I got into the DIC today and took a picture of all my codes...I haven't reset any of them. Thanks in advance.
If you press & hold the Options button and press the Fuel button 4 times with the key in the on position, it will start the list the DTC and you can press the gauges button to do the same manually, then take a 4X6 pad and write down all the coses, and include the beginning letter of each and then you can hit the reset button and it will erase all of them, then go out for a 15 minute drive and come back and do it all over and see what codes are left. They should all have a 'C' in back of each indicating 'Current' or still existing. if they have an 'H' it stands for historic. You can then lookup what each codes relates to. Good luck

You failed emissions because your “IM Monitors” were not completed…when you disconnect the battery all the monitors were reset and you have to do a complete “drive cycle” all over again…video below !!…if you have some trouble codes stored some IM Monitors will not run...most if not all States will allow one monitor to not be complete and the EVAP monitor is the hardest one to complete because the parameters for that one to run are difficult…air temp, amount of fuel in the tank, etc…

so I've drove it 6 7 times about 300 miles. Will it help w the drive cycles if i clear out the codes in the DIC? To find out if i have a trouble code I'll have to get a OBD II right? Thanks

Go buy yourself a cheap OBD2 scan tool so you can see what monitors have not completed and also read your trouble codes…you can clear them too !!

Absolutely great advice. Did this myself to my van. Cam timing sensor. 11 bucks. How much would a dealer have charged me? I'll lay odds they would have wanted to replace the whole shootin match starting with the cam timing sensor shaft. $$$$

Cool, thanks for the help. I'm ordering a scanner tonight. Cleared the codes tonight in DIC and took a 30 minute drive. So if theres a trouble code will it show back up immediately in the dic or will it take a while?
Most DTC’s will illuminate the MIL after the 2 consecutive failure…a “2 trip DTC”…the first fault will be a “pending” DTC but the fault must happen again the next time the car is driven…for an O2 sensor heater IM monitor to show completed if there is say a P0171 or P0174 “lean trouble code” that monitor will not complete until that P0171 or 0174 is fixed…2 weeks ago I diagnosed a Corvette here in town with a bad O2 heater and after I replaced the O2 sensor I had to drive the car around to make sure that monitor ran and completed…I didn’t want another trouble code to pop up until that monitor was ran and completed…most emission states will allow 2 monitor not to be completed on 1996 to 2000 and 1 not to be complete on 2001 and later…if you want to learn about this stuff you can join the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)…they have tons of papers on all kinds of stuff like this !!

My scanner is coming tomorrow. Only have 1 code in the DIC now and its A0 LDCM U1064 H, If H stands for historical do you think it will pass emissions now? Thanks again.
