All threads on the topic are 5+ years old. Right now, what is a good battery I can get for my ‘99 C5? Car is mostly stock. Looking for a replacement since mine is going bad.
I recently bought a group 34 Die Hard AGM from Advanced Auto Parts. Advanced now owns the Die Hard brand and they stock them through their chain of stores.
I think a main consideration is availability, so I went with a retailer I could be sure to honor their warranty whenever and wherever I may need it. Just about all the premium batteries are 4 year warranty, and that’s about how long they have lasted me generally.
The group 34 are a tad larger than the original battery, but fit perfectly in the tray. However, I had to grind the rubber hold down nub to fit properly.
Pro tip: Do not drop the rubber hold down, because it can fall into the fender void behind the front tire. Just stick a towel above that opening on the engine side of the battery as a precaution.
Note: It’s not your fathers Optima…. They have changed hands a couple times and it worth scanning the net for recent reviews. The ones I found were not flattering.
