Anyone having any positive/negative experiences w/THE MOTORSPORT TECHNOLOGIES MTI "True Ram Air System?" I am curious as to what (if anything) prevents lots of water from getting up into your engine since it feeds cold air to your engine from "below the bumper." I am looking for a simple cold air induction system that isn't 1. crazy expensive 2. difficult or complicated to install or 3. Confuses the computer. Please share if you would and TIA, TJ :flag
there's another one out there from corvette concepts that is or must be designed very similarly, I don't have experience with it but from what I've seen and they've showed me, it should work....and it's guaranteed
The intake seems dangerously low. Like one good or even medium puddle and it's Hydro Lock City. But I hope Im wrong. Curious to hear from those in the know. :yesnod:
I have the MTI system on my car. I have driven in the rain several times and have had no issues. Pretty much any aftermarket system hangs low and could possibly ingest water if you drive through a huige puddle.
I had the MTI True RAM Air system on my '01 C5 until I put the blower on (not compatible). I really liked it. Nice fit and finish and my car made 330 RWHP and 340 RWTQ with only this mod and the GMS air bridge. My C5 is not my daily driver, so it didn't see much rain, but I did have to drive it in the rain a few times and did not have any problems. If you are interested, I can cut you a deal on my MTI True Ram Air kit and GMS air bridge since they are just sitting in my garage now.
I have it. I've never driven in the rain with it but have heard bad things. No SOTP dif. and also 0 hp gained on the dyno. I'm not displeased but I feel it could be better.
I have it and have not had any problems with it. The vette is my daily driver and I have driven through rain with no problems.
There was a SOTP increase over stock. The fit and finish is nice. The poblem is that it takes a lot of careful time to remove the filter, the bottom screws that hold the cover to the shroud are not in a good position, so three screws take time to remove. Not diffcult just real time consuming.
i would go with the vortex from bpp. it was real simple install and very easy filter changes. it was the only mod i have done that i could feel SOTP results instantly. bottom feeders rule!!!!!!!
Doing GM warrantee work I have seen stock intakes suck water in and hydrolock.I try to not get caught in the rain with my 427 Twin Turbo as I have 2 bottom feeders each sucking hard, this isnt a Vara ram debate these are vacumes that will clean your carpet.
For this reason and for economy at Xtreme M.S. we sell over 80% of our units in 1 small package the Blackwing and the Volant air bridge.Produces good #'s on the Dyno as well as the real world and SOTP is REAL!!!!
The Combo goes forwell under 400.00 and takes 30 minutes or less to install, enhances all 'round volumetric efficiency, power, lower fuel consumption etc...and I have never had a dissatisfied customers since we mace this the staple of your intake needs. Its also least likely to ingest water and harm your expensive notor stock or modded.
For current pricing call Mike or Nate at 480-517-4969 and you will be happy at the money saved as well as ease of install and power gain. Thanks David Smilovic.
PS For the economy minde buyer the B Wing alone is sufficient if you want to spend the 169.00 pesos this will add anther 4-6 rrwhp. If the bottom feeders which can be dangerous are 200.00 more fo 6 more ponnies(pulled the# from my hat) you wont feel 5 or6 HP in a 3600 lb. car Dave S
:iagree: I like the black wing better than several I tried and After I dipped into a deep puddle (with my MTI) that built up on a major road during a downpour and put rods through the side of my block in a brand new heads and cam setup I switched to black wing. I liked the way the system fit and looked, the filter was hard to get to, but believe me be careful of puddles that build quickly during downpours, this is a large scoop, that is sucking as well, and it is less than 6" off the ground. It cost me an engine, but I never had trouble running in normal rain conditions you just have to be careful. It was dark when I got hit and I could barely see the tail lights in front of me, a quick dip and it was gone, kind of pissed me off to put it mildly and dont let the insurance company see the setup or you will really be pissed---Bill
