I'm replacing the cam with a milder one that peaks at 6K instead of 6.5K rpms for more low end torque. The lifters are original to the engine at 125,000 miles and the AFR heads have 61,000 miles on them. I want to replace the lifters as well as the lifter guides, I know the GM guides are the ones to use but what's a good drop in lifter to use these days? Are Morel 7717's good? The LS7 lifter reviews seem to range from good to bad.
I'm glad I removed the heads yesterday to inspect the lifters, at least five are bad along with the matching cam lobes and lifter guide holes that are too loose now. Instead of the plastic lifter guides, the Morel 5290 link bar lifters might be a better solution.
