Hi guys. Looking for a controller to lock up my torque converter when I want to, mainly around town. I know they did make them at one time, but I cant find one in a 15 minute google search. I have a 3,200 stall Yank. Reason for lockup being I could not only reduce trans heat around town, but doing this would also improve fuel efficiency. A win-win in my way of thinking. Trans is nowhere near overheating. Thanks, guys.
There's this new thing called a PCM tune? Seriously, you could set up an alternate shift pattern that locks more aggressively and leave the normal pattern alone if that works for you the rest of the time. Actuated by a momentary switch, think tow/haul on the trucks.
The right tune you shouldn't even need to switch it. Cruising it locks, step on the gas and it unlocks and goes. You'll likely have to re-tune all te shift and lockup tables to shift it later to get the rpm up and then lock it to bring the rpm back down.

Thank you. I'm having trouble finding a hand held, for lockup only tuner. I may have to do as you guys are suggesting

I appreciate all the help you guys are offering. I've had a custom tune since the days when LS1 Edit was the only custom tuning available!! However, I didn't know HP tuners could lock up the converter for various throttle positions. If I can't find what I'm looking for, I will check with my tune guy. Thanks, guys.
You can wire in a simple toggle switch. It’s been done before.
You will need to remember to unlock it when you come to a stop. 😊
And if you have much cam at all, you are going to figure out real quick how pissed off it gets if you lock it at too low of an rpm.
