Getting ready to change oil/filter and have heard different options on changing manual transmission fluid and rear axle fluid 2000 M6 with 342 axle with 83,000 miles. Manual says never needs it and I have no idea if it has been done, when I’m under there checking levels what should it look/ feel like so I know if I should also do this. Also what brand/weight/amount and do you need to add limiter slip fluid. So many different reading not sure what you all are using. Thanks
Rear gears: Any full synthetic 75-90. I prefer RedLine GL-5 75W-90, which already has posi conditioner mixed in; 3 quarts. Have also use Valvoline full syn with no issues.
Thank you all for the information! What are the numbers on Dex 6 please. Want to check both brands out before buying. Is the Dex 6 only available at the dealer
The manual trans cars use ATF. Anything Dex III compatable. It's rumored most synthetic fluids ruin the paper blocker rings in 2000 and earlier cars.
You're not the first person to say this, and I don't understand why. The Camaros ditched the paper rings back around 95, why oh why would GM/Tremec then go backwards from there?
I use Amsoil Torque Drive for the M6 in my 1998.
I use Amsoil Severe Gear in the rear. No additives needed.
I've been very happy with both.
150K and no problems.
