A P0442 is a "small" vacuum leak which could be a bad gas cap, leaking purge or vent valve or a line in the EVAP system that may have a small leak...diagnostic equipment like a bidirectional scan tool and "smoke machine" is used to find these small leaks....how was it determined it was the purge valve ??..I see your a teaching Pro...a friend of mine back in the 90's was a LPGA tour pro and played on the 1996 Solheim Cup team.

It was diagnosed with a code tool. I cleaned and check gas cap it was fine. It specifically said it was a small leak and showed video of what this black purge valve looked like. However I needed to see where it is located and if the car has to go on a lift. Who was the golf pro you knew. I may know her. I got involved in LPGA in 1990. Still teach sporadically and play alot. Gonna be 75 on June 1st but going strong thank God....

The P0443 is a purge valve "circuit" code which tells me it's either the purge valve or a wiring issue...the 0442 is just a small leak and the purge valve in the picture is located on the drivers side of the engine as you can see in the pic and can be reached from above...Val Skinner was her name and she retired from the Tour when she developed some shoulder issues...was amazed when we would go to the golf range where we lived and she would just bang them out consistently 250 yards straight as an arrow !!

Ok Got new purge valve. However, I remember someone writing about the little white plastic clips on the hose connection and said he broke them and they can't be replaced. One guy showed a pic of taking a screwdriver and pressing down on it to release the hose. What's the best way to unhook the hose? I knew Val Skinner. I believe she lived in New Jersey back when I played in the Atlantic City Shoprite Classic. I was the person who organized and implemented the Jr. Kids Clinic for that event with the corporate sponsors.

Default Purge valve replaced.

Put new purge valve on. Check engine light coming back on. Have only gotten P0442 code. Have cleared it twice and it comes back on after driving for a few days. Don't know if this valve is bad or something else within evap system is causing this code still. HELP PLEASE!!!

Well you had a 50-50 shot...it would have been best to take it to a shop that has a smoke machine to let them diagnose it...it could be leaking gas cap, purge or vent valve, any of the EVAP hoses or maybe even an EVAP cannister...these small leaks are sometimes hard to diagnose...these are pinhole leaks...you can try replacing the gas cap if you haven't done that yet....just looking good is not good enough...best to order an OEM cap if you can...was your purge valve OE or aftermarket...anything bought on Ebay or Amazon is suspect.

Had no code for a few weeks then got rhe P0442 again. Cleared the code and now check engine is on again and only code I'm getting is 0442. Could be a bad purge valve that was supposed to be new and it is a piece of crap!! You know made in China bull....so trying to figure out how to find this small leak in the evap.

When you get sound advice and ignore it you end up spending money on things that won’t fix your car.
