Default A.I.R. system removal question

Hello all,

"Stolen" quote from one of our esteemed members posted in another thread.....

"you can just remove the AIR system, pump and piping, and then plug the openings in the exhaust manifold. 10 lbs of dead weight gone"

Ten pounds...significant weight lose at least to me.

Has anyone removed this system?

(In reference the hose on the left side front that goes into the air filter housing is part of the A.I.R. system).

Any drivability, codes that are set, emmissions problems to report?

The AIR system only functions at startup when the engine is cold for about two minutes or less. It redueces emissions until the cats lite off.

You will throw codes which you can reset again and again.

10 lbs. will reduce your weight by about .3 of 1% Seems like a lot of hassle for nobody home :banghead: I'd just go on a diet...you might see more of a weight savings and you won't throw codes

they say 100 lbs is a tenth of a second

ten pounds here and ten pounds there equal tenths off your e.t.

as for codes, you can probalby disable some if not all of them using ls1 edit

the only problem is passing visual inspection for smog checks

AIR system removed now for 1 month. No codes . . .
My State doesn't do a visual smog exam, so no worries about that.
I really enjoy doing "free" mods that increase performance (10 lbs here, 10 lbs there) with no down side. So far I've switched to non-run flats (23 lbs saving; magnesium wheels, 9 lbs; Z06 Ti exhaust, 18 lbs. The tires and wheels are especially helpful- 31 lbs of rotating, unsprung weight gone!
More to come; any suggestions? besides catalyst removal, that's next.

Oh, and thanks Kenny for the "esteemed member" reference! :D
