Hello Everyone...
Can someone tell me how do I know if my problem is a ....Multi-function switch.....or the headlight control module. ??
Basically, my lights often don't come up when I turn them on. ( the actual bulbs always work)
Sometimes I do this 5-10 times before they pop up...always together. And they always go down together 100%.
Also, when they don't pop up.....I will keep driving and within 1 minute they just "pop" up together.
Appreciate in advance any help!!!!
Sounds exactly like the problem I had. Sometimes both headlights would not come up and other times they operate normally. I changed the headlight control module (It seemed to be the easiest solution to the problem). I used an aftermarket part at half the cost of a GM branded part. It's been a year and seems to have cured my problem with the headlights not coming up.
I am about to get into this again as my 85 driver's side will not flip up. It will flip down smoothly. It has been intermittent for years.. so I dont believe i have a gear issue. I have 12dc on both power wires when testing for up and down. So, i don't think it is a relay issue. I am guessing it is a problem with one of the three internal contacts (looks like old points type of contacts within the motor).
This youtube vid is good and I know there is another on YT that talks a bit more about cleaning the contacts and how the motor movement triggers them. Good news is that there is a rebuilding service through one of the known corvette suppliers to refurbish these - and the cost is reasonable.
Also below is a good older post from the forum but the pictures are gone - but question the "actuator relay on the side of the motor" for earlier cars.
