Default Noisy fuel pump

The last few days my fuel pump has been extra loud. I was used to the normal humming but it is probably twice as loud as it normally is. Went away when I filled the tank, then came back around 2/3 of a tank. Is this a sign of the pump going bad? Already ordered a fresh filter to put in

That is the way to bet. When electric motors start to sing it often times means that the bearings are starting to go. As long as you are changing the filter go for the pump as well.

Depends on the year. The older cars have conventional filters in the fuel line. When my pump started to become audible, I changed the filter and it went quiet again. About 5 years or so ago, IIRC, and no recurrence of the problem..

Mine is an 01 so thankfully it’s pretty easy to change. Tested the fuel pressure at the fuel rail and it was around 58psi so hopefully the pump still has some life left in it. Don’t want to be taking a gas shower if I have to change it lol

Loosely plan on a pump change. And pray you have an early style fuel system to do an easy pump swap.

If you can find a shop that can "current ramp" the pump. It's a test using a graphing meter like an ekg for people. It shows current draw in a neat row of humps. Humps should be straight & equal size. (Look for an ASE or i-ATN shop)

I have the early style thankfully. Doesn’t look like a terrible job as long as the tank is drained most of the way before you pull the pump
