I ordered the timing chain damper,GM 12588670, for my 2004 C5 (it's a later production car) and the holes in the block are too far apart for the damper, picture below. I've heard that the later production cars might have had LS6 blocks in them somewhere, guessing I need to order a LS6 timing damper instead. Can anyone help me confirm this?
Cam is in the car and the install has went fairly smooth other than the steering rack removal up to this point.
Thank you! I just looked it up and ordered. Guess the C5 will remain on the lift for a few days while I wait for it to come in.
It may help other members if you'd mention where you got the wrong one. Hope it wasnt the dealer! I've seen the white ones, but not the black ones.....

Got it from Summit. I was unaware of the change for the LS6 blocks or even if my car had one until I cracked it open.
That one is for LS2 and later blocks. The bolt spacing changed on the newer blocks. BTR sells the ONLY one that will line up with the LS1/6 blocks, but many are marketed to fit the LS6 which is a shame.
As others have said, most LS1/LS6s will require the BTR chain damper. However, some later blocks were machined for the smaller bolt spacing of the LS2 part. My 2004 Z06(May build) had the LS2 damper hole spacing. For anyone with a late production C5, probably worth measuring before ordering.
For blocks that aren't drilled, ICT Billet makes a drill fixture. I have one, it works well.
Its set up for the LS2 damper, and of course it's a bit expensive.
