I had to have my 2004 Corvette towed to my house because it got stuck in Park at the liquor store.( sigh). The shifter goes up and down pretty smoothly and doesn’t change out of Park. After reading the forums it could be possibly a bushing on the shift cable or something like that. I not that mechanical but I was wondering if there’s anyone who has fixed issues like this and fixes them on the side? I can have it towed to a shop but the first experience left me nervous and since it is stuck in Park I don’t want to drag it again . Any info or interested parties message me please.
I’m located in Central NJ, exit 100
Sorry I’m advance if this is the wrong place to post this. Thanks
Probably the transmission cable bushing. If it's the one on the transmission, the bushing can be had at any auto parts store. Manufacturer is Dorman. Any decent mobile mechanic can handle this. IF however it's the bushing at the shifter then it's a bit more involved. It's the one with the black mark. Happened to me in my C6 3 years ago.....stuck in park.
Turns out the top bushing was broke and that was an easy fix. Car is back to normal! Thank you to the forum, so much info made it so much easier.
Thanks guys for taking time to respond!!
I would replace the one at the transmission BEFORE it breaks and leaves you stranded again. It's just a matter of time. I got stranded with the top one, but was able to fix without getting towed. I then did the other one within a week. Better safe than sorry, the plastic gives out eventually as you know.
Do you know if both bushings are the same size?? I’ll just buy another one if they are
I believe they are but in that pic of the bushings I posted, the one I marked with a black stripe is what you need for the rear. Be forewarned though, it's a biatch to get to.....
My friend has ramps. I really don’t want to get under the car just fix it but I am not trying to get stuck again lol. If the car is lifted is it still a bitch to get too??
Happened twice, first time took awhile fed new cable through the top with a sneaker lace. Dealer disassembles the bottom of car, (really?) The second time crawled underneath and replaced the bushing. I need to remember that doorman part number, keep a set in glove box. Glad you got it fixed.

Drivers side is all I lifted. Seemed like it took longer to place the pucks and set up the jack, once under there took 20 minutes replace the bushings.
