I've had my C5 for a few months now and I've noticed that sometimes I have to press a button on my fob several times before the car responds. I have two fobs. One is new and the other is original but has a new battery and they both do it even if I'm right at the driver's door.
Yesterday, I was working on the car with the doors open long enough for the courtesy lights to shut off. I tried to pop the trunk with the fob and no response. I tried to lock/unlock and no response with either fob. I then started the car and shut it down and the fobs both worked perfectly.
Only thing I can think of at this point is the signal receiver isn't getting enough juice but the battery is brand new and I don't have issues with starting even after a few days of sitting. Charge seems fine.
Hello Louisville from the UK!
I worked in your great town for a while about 25 years ago (when I was with a certain large cigarette company). OMG that seems like yesterday!
Did you get anywhere with solving this one? My first thought was bad contacts in the fob but I guess it can't be if an engine run for a while improves the response.
On my own C5 I think the entire receiver may have packed up completely as I get nothing with e new fob battery and several re-sync attempts.
Did you perhaps change your receiver. If so, how and was it easy?
My 97 basically does the same thing, sometimes the fob works, sometimes it doesn't, I just accept that it is just something that is part of c5 ownership, my 2 cents.
There's a lot of that kind of 'joy' of ownership with a C5.
Like a driver's seat position memory that suddenly decides to push a 6'4" guy into the steering wheel and TPMs that randomly think you've put 63psi in the tyres! (63 being 6 binary ones by the way)

nah, just upgrade to the vastly superior -01/-04 system.
