Default 1 Headlight won't open

Took the car to the dealer and they replaced most all the parts that operate the headlamp door but it still does not open. The headlamp comes on. This is my uncles car and he wants me to look at it for him. Has anyone else had this problem. Have not looked at the car yet so not sure if it has power to the motor or not. It does open when he turns the **** on the motor. He is going to bring it over next week just thought i would see if anyone else has had this issue and could give me something to look for. The drivers side opens, only the passenger side does not open

If it was just at the dealership and money was paid take it back and make them fix it for free. Every dealership I ever worked at was expected to fix the car before it left.

it's pretty simple. the **** on the back of the motor spins as the motor turns clockwise or counter. there is a shaft coming out of the motor that bolts to a scissoring arm which attaches to the bottom of the headlamp door which then raises and lowers.

since it's not raising, i'd look at the motor shaft to see that it's bolted correctly to the arm. the motor's shaft has a square design so if someone just bolted the arm to the shaft without mating the two square areas, the arm wouldn't be able to lift the headlamp door as the motor spins.

oh yeah, first things first, be sure that the motor has power via the fuses too

I'd also check the headlight control module.

I recently rebuilt both of my headlight motors on a new to me 2004. Seems **** poor that the dealership cant diagnose a failed headlight motor (unless its in the wiring or circutry). If one pops up...id wager to bet the HL circut is ok. Even with a stripped gear, most will wind up with the hand crank as its MUCH less strain and force then when the electric motor does it. The motor rebuild is straight forward if you can change brake pads...you can do this. I opted for the bronze replacement gears. On my drivers side...the gear was so stripped, it looked like a D instead of a circle lol. About an 2 hour ordeal removing the buckets, taking motors off, and rebuilding, and reinstallation.

Good luck,

Joe
