Default Stock Bottom End question....

Forgive my ignorance, but what specifically is the "stock bottom end"? I see this discussed on various boards in relation to drag racing, but never have I seen what specifically makes up the bottom end.

Is it the transmission, output shaft, differential???

I also see reference that stock is a 10 bolt, and recommendation is a 12 bolt.

Can someone please explain this to me so I can have a clue??!!

Thanks!

Stock bottom end is the factory engine block and rotating assembly including the crank, piston rods and pistons, etc. The top end includes heads, valves, intake, etc.

A 12-bolt rear end is a heavy-duty diff. In referring to LS1's, those typically are used on f-bodies.

Here's a pic of his C5R short block a forum member sent me. (Thanks, Rich)

I "beefed" of the bottom end when I had my engine rebuilt.

It just means you use much stronger parts in the short block or "bottom end"

unually that means using forged parts like forged pistons, and stronger bolts like ARP rods bolts, a stronger timing chain, etc. etc.

Long block is short block + heads. It usually is a complete engine. Short block is just the internals + block (no heads) * or cam sometimes
