Default Supercharger question

Considering boosting my 2000 FRC. It already had a TSP 228r cam and log tube headers when I got it
what’s the most complete kit I can get that would pretty much have everything I need to just bolt it on and then get it tuned ? I will do everything myself except the tune so any past experiences doing this are well welcomed. Thanks

I installed a A&A centrifugal supercharger myself, but paid someone to pin the harmonic balancer and install upgraded clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate. My kit came with bigger injectors and a boost a pump. There is the roots style supercharger but you have to replace the hood because of clearance issues. My 97 m6 coupe dynoed at 536hp and 476tq at 6200 rpm, never regretted supercharging, there is no downside.

Your two main companies / kits are A&A and ECS. While different setups, the packages and outputs are very similar. The benefits to using these kits vs blower brand kits is that the brackets give better belt wrap (less belt slip), the intercoolers work better and/or are placed better.

Search on the forum. One or two shops have offered $6k or $7k out the door purchase of a kit with installation included.

Install is not hard if you have tools and are no stranger to jacking up your car. The only semi annoying part is pulling the rack to the side to gain access to the hub in order to drill and pin it. If you car has 100k on it, I'd go ahead and upgrade the hub while you're in there.

Rack pro tip: once you get the PS lines off, use a leverage bar to get it loose and slide if half way out of the car, then to get it back in place easily a use a basic ratchet strap from my truck and crank it down into place. Wicked easy.

For reference, 10psi has proven to be a great boost level with these cars.

The key to ALL of this is WHO TUNES IT. I don't know who is safe in Florida. Vengeance in GA? Others can make recommendations.

Kit alone is fine. I happened to do supporting mods beforehand. New pac springs, straub bushings, RST with lightweight fly and tick master, ECS trans brace, pFadt trans mount. Boost-a-pump will work well.... but I had also gone ahead and installed an LPE 255 (walbro) pump in place of the factory unit. The job can be done in an hour. Two if your first time.

Factory or small cam....10psi.... that is the "having your cake and eating it too" level of awesome on these cars. Easy driving. Awesome power. No down sides.

With a cam that makes similar power to your 228R (I ran the 228r prior to my 232/236/113- and NA power and curves were similar) 1 7/8 long tubes, BTR 660 springs, ported 241s and the Novi 1500 kit from ECS (on 93 pump @ 10psi):

After the tune I needed to opt for an elecric water pump from Meziere. The belt ripped my bell off the manual pump on my maiden voyage driving it home.
Added another $1k to my cost. Kit was $6,199 with tune.

Car drives like stock all day if you want it to. Very wife/girfriend friendly until you decide it's more about you enjoying the ride than she.

Weld the tip of the bell pulley where it meets the shaft. Three or four little zaps.

If this Meziere prematurely fails me like my first one I'll be going back to an OEM and doing exactly that.

There’s a couple of Vette performance shops in your area that may be able to help with a tune. Here’s one off the top of my head:

@Toys4Life C5 This guy installed his own, and also has a helpful C5 YouTube channel.

... Eh.... Not so helpful. Not a techie channel. More a gloss over bullet point conversation. Good for basic familiarization. But not helpful if you're elbow deep. The author does get elbow deep, which I respect.

Depends on your perspective, and not all of these are step by step technically in depth. A pro engine builder, for example, probably wouldn’t get too much out of it, on the other hand I have found many of Toys videos to be very informative.

Sometimes all we need is a quick visual to get through a step we’re unfamiliar with, or find the right specialty tool. Definitely one of the best dedicated C5 channels.
