My 2002 C5 base is getting a PO -0442 fault code . I replaced the gas cap and reset but no luck . Thinking it's the purge valve solenoid. Can anyone tell me where to find this valve on the vehicle . Thanks .
I had that code on mine a few weeks ago. A wire to the valve was broken and after they replaced the pump the new one burnt out because it was trying to pump with the valve closed. So check your pump too. This photo is from a service manual for a 2000.
First thing did you buy an OEM gas cap ??…I’d be wary of an Amazon or EBay gas cap…if you think it’s the purge valve remove it and see if you can blow air through it…it is “normally closed”…it can be MANY things listed below…I’d find a shop that has a smoke machine and let them diagnose it…it would be cheaper in the long run…these “small leaks” can be hard to find sometimes.
When the EVAP system sheck the system it monitor vaccum in th system . The Purge valve open and the Vent valve close .
This allow the engine to draw vacuum . After some time the Purge vallve is closed and the vacuum value is monitored by the PCM by means of the fuel tank pressure sensor .
If the vacuum is not maintained due to leakage in the system (fuel cap , Vent valve or may cracked tubing the the P0442 set .
With a smoke maschine it is much easier to locate the leakage point as C5_DIAG mention above .
