I installed a Hurst shifter in my C5. I used the factory ****. Much to my surprise there are NO rattles, vibrations or noise of any type. I just got back from a 30 mile test cruise, driving from WOT and banging gears to just cruising around. It sounds just like the factory shifter. Did I do something wrong? :D
I was reluctant to do this mod because of all the bad press about excess noise from the shifter. Now that it is in and quiet I could not be happier with the install!

Thanks, SideStep, you just put my mind at ease about something. When I first got my used 'vette, I noticed the shifter had a very firm, almost stiff feel to it. I figured it was just a Corvette characteristic, because shifts were very precise, with the perfect amount of "notchiness" to them. I can feel exactly when a gear engages, and exactly which gear engages; I've never missed a shift with it. Shifting requires more effort than any car I've ever driven, but the precision is well worth the workout. Later, I started to notice a rattling or grinding feel coming from the shifter, especially under extreme driving conditions.
Now I know that the noise is a typical, even if not desirable, of aftermarket shifters, I'm doubly happy. I know the noise is not a problem, AND I know I got a free "bonus" because my Corvette's pervious owner installed what is apparently a very nice shifter.

Re: My Hurst shifter is quiet ??? (SideStep)
:yesnod: Yup, I agree with Sidestep. This annoyance appears to vary somewhat from **** to ****. Mine was "buzzy" so I went to billet and all's well. Other guys had no probs.
Mine is very quiet, it is in a box in the basement
Removed mine due to the noise issue, but it was noise from the tunnel I believe, not the ****. I should have probably removed the **** and tried it, but my wife hated it, oh well.
I've had mine in with the stock shift **** for about 8 months now. No noise, rattles or anything.
I did noticed that it seemed to be a little notchy for the first few hundred miles (although no where NEAR as bad as the B&M which only lasted about 60 days in my car), but then it smoothed out nicely.
I don't know why everyone doesn't have this shifter in their car!!!!
