I'm thinking of purchasing a 1999 or 2000 Corvette 6 speed. I will be adding some sort of a supercharger kit to the car, possibly the Lingenfelter one. Two questions 1)Any comments on the Lingenfelter supercharger kit or anyother kits? 2)What is top speed stock for the Corvette and any idea what it would be with the supercharger?
I had my 1993 C4 40th convertible with a 2:73 rear end and auto tranny up to 172 before things got too squirrley for any more even though I still had pedal left :D
My 2001 convertible with 3:42 and MN6 has seen 165mph before I ran out of road and had to slow down. C5 is much more stable than the C4 and I know I can probably hit 180 given a longer stretch of road :D
One thing to note, the car will ramp up to around 150mph real quickly. From there on it takes a while to gain speed. You really need about a 10 mile stretch of smooth pavement for this, and no traffic :steering:
Of course, there's always a JATO pack  :lolg: if you really want to test the aerodynamics of the C5.
Take care, and don't become a road pizza doing this :auto:
I had an 84 vette back in HS, and I topped it out at 146 mph, with my cousin and his GF riding along( I know it was dumb and dangerous, but I was young)
I was going to say, doesn't horsepower just determine how fast you will get to your top speed? Don't you have to make rear end mods to get it to a higher actuall speed?
I saw 135 in a 67 tripower coupe back in 69. Immediately after slowin it down we were changing a rear tire. Kind of makes me think about it as i push it into the triple digits. Can't say enough about good rubber.
a few of us here on the forum, including myself, have breached the 200mph mark. I did it with ~500rwhp using nitrous on my stock motor. I remember the driver side window pulling out from the door seal allowing a screaming wind noise, but otherwise the car felt rather robust. However, i believe this particular high speed assault was the beginning of the end of my stock motor. I blew through almost 15 lbs of nitrous getting up over 200mph. So, if your modifications yield you 500rwhp, you can expect similar results. I do not recommend such high speeds, let alone trying to achieve them by using nitrous.
Nice pic of the 178 MPH! Now that's what I call proof. :yesnod: Top speed really isn't as much of an issue compared to how quick you get there and how well you are able to control the car and stop once you do get there.
There are so many things to consider at high speeds: rear end gearing, tires, tire pressure, brakes, road conditions, weather conditions, and nerves of steel.
I hit a little over 190 over here in Germany. Keep in mind I have an A4 and 3:15 gears. With these gears or even the 2:73 you don't need 500 rwhp. I haven't even hit 450 yet.
