My thinking is more towards the voltage regulator circuit, after doing additional testing.

I can see the same brightness (or dimness) of the DIC, when the parking lights are on (when the sensor is not controlling the DIC brightness), as to when I turn the parking lights off (sensor now controlling the DIC brightness), when I shine a bright light onto the sensor for several seconds.

In other words, if it was a sensor "range" issue, I would expect to see a brighter DIC when the parking lights are on (when the sensor is not controlling the brightness).
I can not see any difference, so something else is limiting the DIC brightness.

Has to be something common to both modes of controlling the DIC brightness.

I was mistaken. My DIC brightness is fine. BUT MY HUD can't be seen during daylight anymore --- only at night.
I view the HUD as "COOL" but not very useful since I'm not tracking my car and when I want to get on it (rarely), I've got that BIG Tack to keep an eye on.
I will probably not rip the whole dash apart to fix something I rarely use. I'm always disappointed in the cheap lousy electronics GM puts in these cars.
But I think it's different today in C8's.
