I was wondering if my o1 c5 would be plug and play if I bought the top of the dash with the buttons and the hud in it.
I really like to style of the hud in the c5 and want to see if this is something that has been done or if anyone knows if gm left the same harnesses under the dash or what's going on lol thanks in advance

Incorrect. Early dash clusters do not have the plug for the HUD. The boards DO have the pinout locations though. So if you can get the right adapter you can solder a connector in.
But he has an 01 and that dash should definitely have the pinout from the factory. So he can buy the HUD itself and a used or new HUD control panel to install with his dash and be all set to go.

All IPCs from mid 1999 to 2004 are HUD enabled, they have the appropriate connectors.
So you would need a HUD projector, left side HUD controls with wire harness, dash bezel and dash pad.
