My windshield broke last weekend and I setup an appointment to have it replaced. Today they called me to say that they (Safelite) cant replace my windshield since it requires replacing molding and that this molding has been discontinued by Chevrolet and is no longer available.. Does anybody know what my options are? Thanks in advance

Go to a local glass company. Explain your situation. Thats what I did, and when the glass company knew about the trim being unavailable, they just put a little extra care into it. Took 3 or 4 weeks for them to get the glass shipped to them after ordering it. Then took about 3 hours to replace. NOTE!! Safelite wants gravy work. They dont want to pussyfoot around saving old trim. They want to rip out the old, and pop in the new. I'm 100% satisfied with my local glass company. Doesn't look like the windshield has ever been out, which is what it SHOULD look like. My .02
Thanks everyone
I looked at the car to see what they're talking about and realized they want to replace the holding that is attached to the windshield frame with screws as well as the weather stripping which is in excellent condition. I called them and they are good with me removing the molding and weatherstrip, this is my preferred method as well.
Watch out for leaks. I had the W/S replaced in my C5Z and the shop didn't replace the molding or weatherstrip. After taking it back to them 5 times they stopped trying to use sealer to stop the leaks. I had to have my Insurance Company intervene and they authorized a another complete W/S replacement along with the molding and weatherstrip. That stopped the leaks. Whatever, you do make sure to save the old blow-out strips that keep the top of the door windows from blowing out while running at higher speeds. GM stopped providing those with the moldings about 15 years ago.
