Split Second Brake Grab
After having the '03 for over a week now, this irritating stuff starts to pop up. DIC reads "service traction control", with the Active Handling icon lit up on the dash. A couple times earlier today I felt a slight left front brake grab for a split second, not enough to make me loose control, but it is disconcerting.
Pushed the Active Handling button off. A bit later went for a ride, no warnings, no AH icon light on, no brake grab..??????
I'm just going to leave the AH off. No racing, really no spirited driving, just a nice cruising vehicle. Should I be concerned?
Check the steering sensor connector to make sure it is making a good electrical connection. Also make sure the wheel alignment is set properly, especially the steering wheel angle. AH is activated by the steering sensor telling the EBCM where the driver wants to go. If it is providing spotty erroneous information AH will start to react and once the EBCM sees the steering input doesn't match other parameters it shuts off AH until the next ignition cycle. Once the failure message appears the car is safe to drive, however, you will not have any AH capability.
Wheel alignment can cause the same type of problem if the steering sensor is at an angle that is too close to the limit either left or right. If your steering wheel is a few degrees off to one side or the other when you are driving straight ahead that might be the cause of your problem. This can be due to the steering wheel angle being set wrong or the thrust angle being set wrong.
Turning off AH avoids the issue since you are telling the EBCM you don't want it anyways.

Thanks Bill, solid info about AH. I leave AH off now, have not been having any issues, will keep it off. The steering wheel position is straight. No racing and not even any spirited driving is in the future for this A/E, I got it for simply a nice car to cruise around in and an occasional overnight trip.
Going in the shop to change out all the fluids and a good going over soon. Again, thanks for the info.
