I bought a C5 last fall and proceeded to replace the stereo with a new Pioneer head unit. Since the head unit has options for front and rear cameras I added a backup camera.
Reverse camera is triggered by the reverse light so it automatically shows when putting into reverse, but power is tapped from the head unit itself to ensure enough power to run the camera and that you can view the camera anytime from the head unit by choosing the input. Works great, except when the car is run for a while the camera cuts out. I think it is due to the heat from the exhaust. (The exhaust is right under the license plate and the camera is right above the license plate facing down. If I turn off the car and it cools down, the camera works perfectly again upon startup.
The camera I used was an inexpensive Amazon camera (Natika) with decent reviews but upon further review it seems heat is an issue with this camera. Does anyone have any recommendations for a backup camera that can tolerate high heat conditions?
Do you have a newer vette with a factory reverse camera or is it an after market like mine since the C5 did not come with a factory reverse came.
If aftermarket, what brand /model is it?
