Is there anything special you are supposed to do when installing a new oil level sending unit? I know the black dot is supposed to be on top, but how exactly are you supposed to ensure it stays on top while threading it into the oil pan? Dealing with a new sensor reading "low oil" when the pan is full. It isn't an issue with the gauge or the wiring - testing for continuity across the sensor itself when it was stil in the pan shows the sensor contacts are in fact closed as if it had low oil....
Or maybe it just does not like 15w50? Any thoughts?
IMHO, ANYTHING electronic that needs replacing on a C5, except the oil PRESSURE sender, should use genuine GM Parts. Lifter trays are another GM only part... .
The op was asking about the low oil sensor, not about the oil pressure sensor.
I understand that. I was merely stating he should stick to all GM sending units EXCEPT the pressure sender. The low oil level sender being one of them, so it too should be replaced by a genuine GM sender. There was a question on whether he bought a genuine GM level sender, or not.
Normally I would not care so much because I know there is oil in it...BUT given the heavy modifications to the car, the LARGE oil cooler, 3x larger oil filter, high volume pump, I really want it working to make sure I have enough oil in the pan and am not pumping it dry at RPM.
I remote mounted the filter and went significantly larger....
A filter like that......When you need to change it, you'll have to buy 8 quarts of oil!!! Seriously though, I've always thought the LS engines should use a larger filter. But they go hundreds of thousands of miles with the stock size, so who knows? I like not getting under the car to change the filter. Nice work......
