Heads or Intake Manifold

I am looking to either do a set of better heads or a Fast or TPIS manifold, but am looking to do just one of them at the moment. Which would be the better gains? My current setup in my LS1 is BTR stage 3 N/A cam, 799 heads, LS6 intake, and 1 7/8 lts. I was looking at the Brawler LS6 CNC heads from Texas speed, the PRC 220cc as cast heads, as well as having my current 799s ported. Any ideas there?

Subscribed. Also looking into adding new heads when I add a cam & long tube headers and wanting to know the best option and value.

My money's on heads giving a bigger increase, with the intake being a simpler install.

Heads are better but are also typically more than twice the cost.

Thats kind of the way that I have been leaning, as it would be easy to swap manifolds later on. Now the question is, do I have my current 799s ported by the likes of FED, Katech, Wilkes, TSP, etc. or get a set of aftermarket castings like the PRC 220cc?

If your interested in a set of 243 heads, with 630 lift springs, milled .0010, ported, valve job, chamber match....at a good price. Hit.me up.
my build is going a different direction and these are sitting on the shelf. Just putting it out there.

Definitely heads first. Theres a recent YouTube video comparing cnc ported 243/799 heads versus the PRC 220 as cast, and it was a push. You’ll save a bundle by just porting your 799 heads.

I always thought his was a decent deal for porting the 243/799 heads.

Their price is slightly higher than Texas speed, but the benefit is that you can buy the services a la carte. Texas Speed only sells a bundle. Katech sells bundles too, but you also have the choice of individual services. Nice and fair pricing!

Katech’s CNC Porting Bundle….
I bought an extremely clean, low mile set of 243 heads off a C5 Z06 car from someone on the forum for $600 I believe. Sent them to Katech for their magic. Haven’t installed them yet, but they sure do look pretty dang sweet.

I went with all their products to recreate the Stage 2 package that isn’t offered by them anymore. Katech is no joke. They know exactly what they’re doing. Understand that they aren’t the ‘our heads flow more’ people. They analyze and engineer their products to not fail. Maybe not the biggest HP numbers out there but reliability under sustained load is their jam. Definitely not the least expensive way to go but I prefer to spend my money on proven combination with no valve train failure.

Great luck whatever decision you make!🤟🏻🏁

No. I had them do everything including new valves and a slight decking. Came out to $1800 including shipping

Good info to know, especially seeing I just found out Katech is about 10 miles from me.

^^ That is what I was thinking as well. Talked to a guy name Rick there, good guy. I am actually leaning toward their "crate" LS3, I figure I can offset the cost by selling my current LS1 engine.
