Just picked up this c5 today, finding everything that needs to be done. Its a 2000, I'm not sure if the balancer should be a worry yet. Would it cause any weird sounds when accelerating hard?
It doesn't look like it's wobbling. Try marking it with a paint pen and see if the outer part is moving relative to the inner part.
If it is, then you should replace the balancer soon. Powerbond and ATI are two that are often mentioned as good replacements.
Id start with a new tensioner pulley and belt. Cheap and easy fix for a screech belt or even ac belt and ac belt tensioner.assembly.
One of them sounds could be slipping if it sounds like squirrels fighting.
I was planning on grabbing a belt today, see if that does anything. I haven't had a chance to drive it with the mark on the balancer, so thatll be a good chance to do so.
In addition to the mark on the pulley, are you checking it at higher RPM's and when it is hot? I have no audio when I play your file. Mine looks like yours until I give it some juice then she moves a little (especially when HOT). I am sending my car to ECS soon for a "boost" so a new balancer is part of that. If it is wobbling under load, you'll want to get that replaced.
Gave the car a small drive, today. Fully up to temp, and a few hard pulls. The mark still looks good. Although I did notice that the rubber piece is cracked. So I'll probably end up replacing it soon anyways.
I did notice a weird brushing like sound on acceleration, I figure that could be the driveshaft coupler or something.
