Good Day. Mine works, but 99% of the time the display doesn't work. I don't care so much about the display but the fan not running. My blower fan was replaced about a year and a half ago, but the fan is now intermittent and mostly doesn't run. I don't think the control unit is the source of this problem, as the temperature control works fine and the AC compressor turns on and off properly. Could the new fan just be defective or maybe a grounding problem, or...? What about having the fan replaced again and having a separate fan switch with speed control installed.
I'll appreciate thoughts on this problem.

When you say 'doesn't work', you mean you don't hear the motor spinning up, as well as a lack of air flow, correct? It's just that it seems fairly common for fans to run, but if the vacuum actuators aren't working the air path sends output to all the outlets at once, including the defroster, dash, and floor vents. Plus, it's in fresh air mode which moves less air than recirculate mode.
If your vacuum actuators are working, then fan operation has three components: the controller with bad display, which sends a signal to a speed controller, which then sends power to the fan motor. With an '04, your controller and speed controller both use pulse width modulated signals. Member C5Diag will probably weigh in soon with better information that can help in avoiding use of a parts cannon (i.e. replace everything).
