My father in laws 2003 C5would not start, he was told it was tied to security. Local guy replaced ignition and had fobs all reprogrammed. Car still does not consistently start. I vaguely remember a similar issue with the C5's security. Everything else seems good to go, no battery issues or anything. I will post in his regional, I need to get him to a reliable Corvette Mechanic in OKC. Thanks everyone for any info
Sometimes it's the starter solenoid or the starter, a quick check is to attach a test lead to the violet wire on the solenoid and ground and verify there is 12v when the key is turned to the start position of the Ignition switch.
Your Father-in-Law needs to take the car to a diagnostic technician and not a Corvette “mechanic”…when someone says I need to take my car to a “mechanic” that is someone who can change parts…L1 Automotive Diagnostics and Programming provides advanced level diagnostics and Keith Perkins is a vehicle security and immobilizer expert and is a trainer in this field…info and a video below…he is about 90 minutes away.
When you say that the car will not start what does that mean? You have to specify what no start means, does the engine crank over but fails to start, or does nothing happen when you turn the key to start, very important for us to help you diagnose the problem.
Troubleshooting a no crank problem is relatively easy but it requires a DVM, and not simply replacing parts. You should hear the TDR click on each and every time you turn the key to start the car. The C5 starting circuit starts with 12v leaving the Ignition switch start contacts and making its way to the Park/Neutral safety switch or to the clutch depressed safety switch if it's a standard and then to the positive coil terminal on the TDR. The negative or ground is applied to the other side of the TDR coil by the BCM if everything is OK with the VATS "security". Using a DVM you should find out why the TDR is not being energized, no 12v or no ground,
Thanks, I am in Illinois or I would have had that thing fixed by now.. hard to help him remotely I think mechanic is kinda taking him for a ride just throwing parts at it.
Mechanic comment on point in his situation.. no real diagnostics just throwing more parts at it.. now he is kinda stuck on making this guy fix the damn car lol...
A C5 no start is so easy to diagnose…any competent mechanic with BASIC electrical skills should be able to do this…I’ve seen 25 year mechanics that don’t even know how to use a 12 volt test light…sad !!
The one thing you should have your father in law do is to spray electronic contact cleaner on the resistor pellet on the key and to the very front of the Ignition switch. The contacts that press against the keys resistor pellet may be dirty, repeat this several times, and yes it's tough trying to help someone remotely.

Is it possible to take a couple of days off and road trip to fix it for him as you seem to have the ability? He is your father in law, I’m sure your wife will reward you. Mine would.

How’s the weather down there ??…might be down there Saturday and Sunday…hope the rain holds off !!
Good replies, yeah the guy said it's not the starter, but I told him to check it at home when it doesn't stat.. If this nut he has swapping parts doesn't fix it asap I will have to go over to OKC
