Can anyone offer insight on the lobe designs used on the Track Weapon and/or Cam Motion's Titan 2? This is my reason to add to the thread. I want to be sure they are low shock to the valvetrain.

After perusing much of the aftermarket for general cams to use I was attracted to both of these for different reasons. What I have is a former SC'd 427 (C5-R block) with AFR heads cnc'd by TEA as 238cc runners with unknown chamber size, "9.5" compression ratio, and pretty healthy cfm of 342 at .600 intake and 278 exhaust around same. The car has 3.73s and two wheel sets which change the dynamic greatly between 28" and 26.2".
My thing with the car is that running 16psi on E85 was an electric thrill when I could line up a good stretch of road, but it made the car pretty undrivable in any other setting. No taking corners and accelerating out. No aggressive downshifts on a hill. Etc. It was extremely snappy throttle. Fun, but I don't want a drag car I want to send this thing on country rips and I had bought it to use as a track mule to learn in HPDEs.
My investment and attention is on the other car still coming together. That means this one got a mismatched BTR Trinity and a silver blade instead of the MSD Atomic / Nick Williams combo I'd prefer because I was able to get the intake for nearly half and I already had the tb. Also, not many Cathedral versions of the MSD come up used. That and I have to combat the low 9.5cr now that there is no F1-R strapped to the nose.
So I have been working on custom specs for a grind. Cam goals:
- 0, negative or very low overlap so I don't stink of raw fuel
- intake closure timing seems key to combat that 9.5 and keep it feeling responsive in low/mid
- keep an rpm limit of 6500 to take advantage of those 3.73s
- keep lift moderate for two reasons... the heads run out of airflow after .600, and I want to be gentle on the valvetrain. Long term durability and the ability to send this thing on track sessions for a season without headache.
- To WANT to get in this thing and drive it a lot instead of having my usual thumper cams which, while fun, give me headaches before long.
Here is what I came up with after a LOT of trial and error. I started off basing it all around a static .595/.586 lift and whatever Cam Motion lobes appear to possibly be on both cams listed. I later changed up slightly to take full advantage of my heads and kept the same relative ratio between the two.

I ended up gravitating to this cam after watching the "Low Boost Films" channel on YT. I liked how Ken was setting up his C5 for the track. He wasn't dropping crazy $ and most of what he did netted him a positive gain on the track. I wouldn't really call it a low budget build but rather more carefully spent to address the C5s weak points when pushing it.
He mentions in one of his videos about working with cam motion to develop the cam but doesn't go into the engineering side of it that much. One of his videos I put into this thread was a older clip of Dale Sr. briefly commenting about the C5Rs tourqe down low I believe. I'd have to watch it again to refresh my memory , but I believe Ken wanted to try to mimic the cam specs as of the C5R as closely as he could and still be street driven.
I'm trying o take advantage of his effort he put into designing this. But I probably could have just thrown a titan 2 or 3 and had similar results. Or maybe not?
Call Cammotion and pick thier brain for some extra info on the cam.
I worked with the illusive Phil from AI to put together this package. He ordered the track weapon straight from Cammotion and dialed it in with the 243s I got from him. I hope it pays off.
I go through phases with YT channels. I know Low Boost Films but forgot they are local-ish to me. I'm in CT and have at least one friend in operations at Lime Rock and am up there a few times a year for events as well as track days or infield days. I'll have to keep an eye out.
What an interesting trajectory from what you have said. They were seeking to replicate facets of the C5-R cam while maintaining street manners and developed the Track Weapon. I find myself on the opposite side of that coin where I am intent on street manners while maintaining mid-range tree stump pulling. I am also trying not to spend much on this car and keep the focus on the turbo build. The 427 may be a mid range compression, but it has (to my best guess with partial information) some amazing flowing total engine airflow afr heads which are likely Stage 3 LS1s with perhaps 238cc runners. If so, they keep great velocity and high flow in and out of the cylinder and are the main reason I might expect more than a docile setup out of the mild specs I'm working with. Knowing (suspecting strongly) that the valves are large was also a factor in my keeping timing advance on the low CR to 4 and not 6 or 8. I don't want to have the measure clearance. I also think the lower timing advance would be kinder to the engine if/when it does see track sessions.
I have everything else for the car ready to go. If my further investment is just a cam, possibly some fresh springs and a tune this year then I'm a happy camper.
I am stubborn, a bit of a procrastinator, suffer from some ocd and someone who does not like to ask for help. And because of the latter, I ended up falling.
So, I cranked it over on 1st start. I noticed that it didn't start without some throttle. It did run...poorly but I attributed this to the car needing a new tune after what was done. I let it run for a few minutes on 2 different occasions with lots of fuel dumping but and it coming up to temp. I then changed the oil before going on the flat bed to the tuner. I noticed it stunk like fuel more than what i was comfortable with. Why I didn't pause and re think some of my choices at that point I couldn't tell you. Only thing I can think of is that this project did take me more time than most, and I was rushing to get it over to the tuner so I can finally be done with it.
So the car went to the tuner late Feb. He calls me that day to tell me it won't start. Sounds like no compression. I told him to get into it and let me know.
He finds out that the valves were not seated properly on the machined 243s I got from Advanced Induction. And that I should not have installed the new larger fuel injectors because they dumped way too much fuel in. (I forget the exact terminology) he said the pcm still set for stock and now a bigger injector is there and it's still sending signal for smaller one ...something to that effect. So these factors along with running/cranking it ended up washing down the cylinders....something he said he hasn't seen happen on a LS1 in about 20 years. Great I thought.
It had no or very little compression in all cylinders. Even after putting a good head on to check. This i saw in person.So needless to say I'm very disappointed and it sucks.
Maybe I should have listened to my old man. Maybe I was in over my head. Or maybe I'm just to proud. Either way this has cost me because instead of towing her back home, I went the other way and purchased a crate motor LS2. Yeah, one bad decision after another. I did because I really enjoy the car. It's nothing special but it's mine. I was initially trying to get close to C6 Z06 power. I probably should have cut my losses but maybe in a few weeks I'll actually have something that will be close to that.
That's all for got for now. Just wanted to vent to others. And say that I did/do appreciate all the help along the way. I'll fill in more details about the car later on.
