Default LG Super Pro headers Vs. other brands?

Hey, so this thread is regarding the performance of LG’s Super Pro headers versus other brands. I do not own LG’s, but have heard good things about them. I currently own 1 3/4 headers, but will be upgrading to 1 7/8. I want to hear from people who own them on their experience with gains/performance.

They claim they are the most powerful header in the world. I want to see how much better they are versus other brands such as American Racing Headers, Hooker, Kooks, Etc…

People claim that LG have more low end torque gains besides the other gains throughout the power band

Has anyone ever dynoed the LG’s and the swapped out for other headers? That would be cool to see the results.

I want to get the biggest bang for the buck and buy once.

I have a stock 2004 coupe with LG Pro longtubes. I was told by LG to get the 1 3/4" headers rather than 1 7/8" for a stock engine. Going up in size is not an upgrade it is appropriate for a somewhat highly modified engine. As explained to me by LG, they did the install and tune, you will lose low end torque with the larger tubes on a stock engine.

The LGs are great. Totally satisfied after 3 years of install.

As I understand it, headers with a longer primary length will have more of a low end bias. Similar to runner length on an intake manifold. So if you can find out what the primary length is for each brand you can get an idea of how they compare.

Best bang for your buck....don't waste your money on "upgrading" from 1 3/4s to 1 7/8s for minimal gains. Unless the primary is longer for better scavenging and low end power you'll be very letdown with the results.

This is a great watch for those considering the change.

Yep. I have to agree. Unless you have money dripping out of your pocket, just stay with what you have. How modified is your engine and what / how much power would you consider necessary or desired for a swap?

What brand/configuration header is currently on the engine?

What power level are you at now?

Yes, another consideration is that a lot of the companies make the primaries shorter on the 1 7/8 version of their headers, likely for fitment reasons. A couple companies, I want to say kooks is one of them, keep the same or nearly same length primaries regardless of 3/4 or 7/8

Not sure I’ve ever seen a trusted comparison of one header brand vs. another. Would sure be good to see, but even Engine Masters hasn’t gone to that level.

If I remember right LG super pro's claim to be a true 36 inch primary's and it sure seem like it putting them in from the bottom.

Agreed. Holdner does another good comparison on DNA "Ebay" headers vs. QTP which is eye opening on the insignificant gains a $2k header set has over a $500 set. A comparison of big brand name vs one another would be ideal.

The main differences come in the form of quality welds, metal quality, bends, fitment and installation. And in some cases sound when paired with a cat back of choice. Still going from already installed 1 3/4 vs new to install 1 7/8s is no more than an exercise in wasting time and money to gain similar power outputs just a few hundred rpm sooner in the low end. Not really worth the squeeze for a road warrior that isn't chasing 1320 PBs.
