Oil Filter Bypass Valve
My question is: Does anyone know the factory setting of this valve?
To be clear, I am not referring to the oil-pressure-relief valve located on the oil pump.
The oil-filter-bypass valve responds to the differential pressure across the filter, and opens when the differential pressure exceeds the setting of the valve. When the bypass valve opens, some or all of the oil supplied by the oil pump bypasses the filter, so the engine is receiving unfiltered oil.
Typical settings of filter-bypass valves, whether located in the engine or in the oil filter itself, are 15 to 25 psi differential pressure.
For those who are considering deleting the oil-filter bypass, I suggest you research this thoroughly prior to making a decision. How you use your Vette and what viscosity oil you use are both significant factors.
