I had the famous bump stop problem with the driver's side headlight and replaced the bump stop. All worked fine. Today I drove to the store and when I turned off the lights, the driver's side stayed up but turned off and the passenger side went down. I turned the lights back on and it came on but stayed down but the passenger side popped up and was on. Now when I turn the switch off, the driver's side turns off but stays up and the passenger side goes down like it's suppose to. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks! I just ordered a motor from Amazon. If that don't work, I'm going to replace both lights with the C6 style and forget about the pop-up lights!!
If the problem recurs, you may need to insert washers at the three bolts holding the motor to the frame to push the motor away a bit. GM had a SB out on this. I think Rodney Dickman Automotive sold a set, or you can buy some appropriate washers from your local hardware store.
^ not in every case. My OEM motor housings cracked and the motor itself would rotate inside it's own housing which caused the wormgear to not come into contact with the gear teeth so the headlight wouldn't raise.
These things do wear out over 20+ years and they're very easy to replace with new parts that'll last you another 20 years before you have to worry about them again
