Default Sticking Clutch

I know this has been the subject of previous posts, but I have not seen an actual answer to the problem of clutches sticking on the floor.

This has happened twice to me in my 2000 FRC; the second time I realized that I could pull the clutch pedal up manually and it would function more or less normally.

But obviously there is something wrong with the clutch assembly (hydraulic, mechanical, or both) on these cars. To make a long story short, has anyone determined what the cause/solution is, or if GM has actually issued a service bulletin on this problem? I would appreciate any possible help with this, as I want to fix it before the racing season.

I've had my cluch replaced TWICE under warranty for this very problem. There is a bulletin on this BUT the dealerships don't have it. They will need to call GM Technical Assistance and explain to them that the clutch pedal sticks under heavy acceleration. The last time I had mine replaced the tech at the dealer said my pressure plate was warped. GM had everything replaced, clutch plate, pressure plate, throwout-bearing, master cylinder and slave cylinder.

You CAN get this fixed under warranty, don't let your dealer say otherwise. DEMAND that they call GM Tech Assistance about the problem, because at the local level they won't know about it.

Good luck!!!

Thanks. My service guy says clutches are not covered beyond 12/12, so it seems I am out of luck (I'm at 20,000 miles). BTW - he says GM tech says the solution is to replace master and slave, and "check" the clutch while the drive train is torn down to see if the rotating assembly need also to be replaced.

Excuse me but my BS alarm is going off really loud right now! My clutch stuck on the floor twice. The first time the dealer mickey-moused with it and delared a victory. The second time it happened I took the car back to the dealer and held a "come to Jesus" meeting with the service manager, service rep and alledged mechanic who was assigned to work on the car.

They replaced everything - clutch disc, pressure plate, flywheel, throwout bering, slave and master - ALL UNDER WARRANTY!!!! COST ME $000000!

I had 32,000 miles at the time. The car's OEM warranty will cover everything but the clutch disc will be arguable as GM classifies that item as a wear component equivalent to brake pads. The clutch disc is probably what you were advised is only good for 12/12.

Take the car back and break that GM OEM warranty off in their laundry bag! Make them fix it - they are obligated to do so, you paid for that warranty when you purchased the car.

Nothing less than replacing the slave and master will correct this problem. They need to use a 2002 Z06 kit for parts. I now have 35,100 miles and the clutch has been fine.

I have considered purchasing the GMPP 5 year 75,000 mile warranty but for $1800 - why? I can take the car to the dealer and have all clutch guts replaced for $1500 out of my pocket. I can purchase just about any electronic part (except the gauge pod) for under $1000 and install it at home. $1800 is near larceny for a warranty. My 2001 is a fairly solid car and I'm sure I will incur repairs in the future - remember, it may be a vette but it's still just a car and they do break down.

Hold your ground and get what you paid for!

SAVE THE WAVE  :seeya
