Hi,
I bought a 99 c5 and had some weird stuff going on with it. I took the intake off and noticed the harness is smashed in between the bell housing and block, causing electrical issues and smoking. I got the harness freed and it was destroyed in that one area so I cut it and trimmed the wires back to good wire.
now, my dilemma is splicing it back together. I notice that there are multiple of the same color wires.. how can I identify which one goes to which? I know replacing the harness is the best option, but it looks like I have to at least take the headers and heads off just to replace it. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
Without knowing which harness got crushed, here is the electrical section for the C5. I have the service manual on CD so maybe you can try and locate which harness t is and go from there.

hey thanks for the reply. I’m not sure what to call the harness besides the engine harness. It runs behind the motor and is tucked up against the block. I’ll check out the schematic, but there’s multiple wires that are the same color and gauge, I’m just trying to figure out if maybe the insulation on the wires are numbered or if it even matters as long as the colors are spliced to the same color.
It's most likely color to color but even that's a gamble. Maybe take a picture of the harness. Take it close up and one showing the engine compartment.
The only way to splice the correct wires together is to have a wiring diagram and using a dvm to perform continuity checks from the smashed wires to the correct pins or sockets on the appropriate connectors.
Update:
for those of you wondering, yes, you can pull out the injector/engine harness with ONLY taking the intake off, loosening the alternator, taking the air pipe off and some small panels. I’m going to opt for a used harness. Hope I can find one somewhere in NorCal 👀

Check out the part number for that harness.. It quite possibly may be a shared part among other models. The headlight harness for my C4 was toast but it was the same harness as the Malibu, Impala, pick ups etc.
