So, I've got a C5 I'm in the process of rebuilding - a handful of minor electrical issues that I'm chasing down. I'm considering buying an aftermarket Tech2 scanner. Is it safe to assume I can test ALL circuits controlled by the BCM with a scanner? For example, the rear deck refuses to unlatch. I've verified wiring between the switch, the BCM, the latches, and the ajar sensors are connected properly, and the grounds seem to be functional.
I'm expecting that the scanner will allow me to further troubleshoot the issue. Is that a fair assumption, or is the Tech2 limited in what it can and cannot test? For example, via the scanner, can I 'tell' the steering column to retract?
Based on this information you can do anything a dealer could have done back when these cars were new. Fully bi-directional means you can send information to the car, not just receive from the car.
There are many videos about scan tools. Consider watching some of them. Some of those content creators are willing to answer questions.
I have a clone tech 2 and it will do anything a gm tech 2 will do . You can operate everything that your car is equipped with. roll down the windows , move the seats, open the hatch, look at the BCM and any other module.
ncali, many thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for - I'll order a unit in the next few days, I just wanted to insure that the scanner can operate all functions. Thanks!!!
