Re: Red Line Tranny Fluid - does it really make a difference? (TNT C5)
I bought my 97 used and drove it for about a year before changing the trans fluid to redline. Almost immediately it felt a little smoother. After about 500 miles a grinding problem going into 4th over 100 went away. All of my little shift issues disappeared.
From now on I won't use anything else in the trans. No I don't work for or own stock in redline.
I worked for me.
I don't think I've ever heard a bad result from redline.
Re: Red Line Tranny Fluid - does it really make a difference? (TNT C5)
The first real question is what is the difference between conventional ATF and synthetic ATF.
For me I used Mobil One ATF and noticed an IMMEDIATE difference. Amsoil and Redline would have also registered an IMMEDIATE difference. I have not driven like machines with Amsoil, Mobil One, and Redline ATF being the only variable to compare and contrast.
Having said that, the operation with the synthetic ATF is smoother and gives less drag. (as witnessed by app .5-1 mpg better)
Re: Red Line Tranny Fluid - does it really make a difference? (TNT C5)
Speaking for myself, YOU BET IT DOES! I couldn't believe the difference changing the fluid made. Since the first day I took delivery, first gear was a "bear" to engage. When I finally did change out fluid (trans/diff), I was amazed. Do It!

Re: Red Line Tranny Fluid - does it really make a difference? (mnotx)
Does redline also make fluid for auto transmissions? And would this make a big difference too? Thanks.
Hi MNOTX,
YES they do : RED LINE "D4-ATF" (redish color). This product is rated to satisfy the GM requirements all the way (confirmed by my GM Dealer).
Re your second part of the question : It might be difficult to give you any measure HOW it works better. BUT : into the Tranny, for sure there is an improvement. I also would like to state that the tranny-temps are lower as before with GM stuff within it. Consider as well as I use my C5 mainly, and for the pleasure, on high speed runs through some steep mountain twisties (most of the time manually in 2nd and 3rd gear), but also on the German Autobahn (most of the time NO speed limits, so some speed runs are always in until about 185mph for some time, depending on traffic and time of the day). In both of those cases, I NEVER ever saw any warning indications on the DIC as e.g. Tranny high temp warning).
I am a totally convinced user of RED LINE products from bumper to bumper - and I am sure you as well would not regret to invest some few USD in the very best for the several "on-board heart-bloods" of your Racer. Good luck brother.

Viprklr, hi,
..........just aa a side remark : I am always and again amazed about the extremely cool look of your Mallett-style wheels. They truly look awesome with their very special touch of HighTech. They indeed compliment the cool looking lines and color of your Car.
I just should consider to set up a purchase order soon..........instead of dreaming any more.

Since Redline has the antislip lubrication in it, do you still add the GM additive also ?? I am asking about the rear gear oil vs. the tranny fluid, but feel you may have answers.

Not necessary to add any additive in most cases. If however you should experience a little clutch chatter from the rearend, then just add whatever small amount is necessary to stop it. I've been using their ATF and lube for a couple of years and really like it a lot.

Re: Red Line Tranny Fluid - does it really make a difference? (Killrwheels)
The rear end oil is different from the tranny oil. I am currently using Red Line 75W90 All-Synthetic Formula which seems to fit the criterion. It already contains an additive for limited-slip differentials. The manual calls for a SAE80W-90 GL-5 lubricant. Red Line covers that.
I would like to know what Red Line Trans oil is being used in the 6-speed. Is everyone using the Red Line D4 ATF ?

Re: Red Line Tranny Fluid - does it really make a difference? (TNT C5)
I have done this in my C5 and in my last 2 Z28's. It makes a very noticeable improvement in shifting. Especially in cold weather. It also seems to keep the gearbox or diff very clean.
Redline is used by many pro racers... it holds up well under extreme use.
