Default Help Finding a Short - Dash Reset and RFA

So I have been struggling with an intermittent short (I think) that occurs randomly. When this occurs, the dash gauges all reset as if the car was just turned on (but I will still be driving down the road) and the car will buck. The car also surges and bucks at low rpm or just idling. I have two different ideas that I think are the culprit but I can't quite nail down which one it is.

1. It sat outside while I was traveling for work for 3 months, and lots of moisture in the car. The carpet on the passenger side was pretty wet.
2. I've installed long tube headers and I cooked the wires on the passenger side that go to the ground, starter, O2, CPS. I have repaired these once with solder and heat wrap. I still had the issue, so I cut that out and repaired with crimps and heat shrink.

The car has intake, headers, and a tune as far as engine mods go. I do have HP tuners, but I really only use it for data logs and diagnostics.

Below are of some of the observations that I have noticed when it is acting up.
  • Key fob does not work (RFA - no comm.)
  • Voltage drops to 10.2V when surges
  • Dash gauges all cycle to zero as if it is going through startup
  • Memory in dash screen is reset
  • Bucking
DIC codes after last instance
  • P0135 H C
  • P0155 C
  • U1176 H
  • U1064 H
  • B2265 H
  • U1000 H
  • U1255 H
  • U1096 H
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as we don't have any shops I trust in this area, so I will likely have to do all the work. I've got to get it ready for an HPDE event at NOLA in March so wish me luck.

I checked three C5 code sites, did not find P1035 or P1055. Probably should re check them.

https://www.corvettesalvage.com/c5-c...-descriptions/

The symptoms you experience could be caused by a number of malfunctioning parts including the ignition switch which is a common problem. Need accurate codes-

Sorry those two codes were a typo. I've fixed them now. However I think this is a wiring ground/short issue.

I haven't had any ignition/starting issues at all throughout this adventure. My initial thought is something is shorting out somewhere but I have no idea where to look first.

The issue you are have is that the voltage is dropping low enough for the PCM and other modules to reset, i.e. instrument cluster. During that time the PCM shuts down and that's why it buck's. The voltage is read at the ignition switch. You can take the switch apart and see what the contacts look like. Easy to clean it up. That won't cost you anything except your labor. You may also want to recheck the wiring at the starter and make sure it's good and not shorting. Also reset the codes via the DIC. Let it run awhile and reread the codes. Most of your codes were probably set due to the power interruption.

You should pull the BCM and remove its cover to check for water intrusion since you found the passenger side wet.

Seems easier to pull the cover over the BCM first and check for water intrusion as already suggested. There are many threads about wet passenger carpet and electrical problems due to wet BCM’s.

Well, I think I found the issue. It was a corroded ground behind the passenger.

I looked at the ground at first and it appeared to be clean, but I took it off and it was covered in oxidation on the bottom of it. Feeling pretty dumb now since that is literally every electrical post on this site.

Thanks for all the advice fellas. I know a lot more about my electrical/ignition system after this weekend.

I'm not really sure, but it may not have been this exact one as I removed and sanded lots of electrical connectors. All ECM connections, all relays and connectors in passenger floor panel, all 9 grounds, left and right door connectors, seat module connector,

So technically it could have been one of those. But the one behind the passenger seat was the only one that looked oxidized.
