I got a new key fob for my '99 from amazon - GM Genuine Parts 19299230 4 Button Keyless Entry Remote Key Fob
I was able to train and program the new fob but it only worked for about two days. I changed the battery in the fob with a new one, disconnected the car battery and pretty much everything else I can think of to troubleshoot. From what I've read it seems like owners have varied success. Either it works and stays working or it works intermittently or it just stops working all together despite having a new fob...
I followed these two videos, there process is pretty much the same. Any insight is appreciated!
If the internal FOB battery connection is momentarily broken, the FOB usually needs to be reset by holding both the lock and unlock FOB buttons for a few seconds until the car responds.
I bought the same Fob about 3 or 4 years ago. Once in a while, it does not respond to the unlock command. When that happens, I press the lock once or twice and then it functions normally with the unlock. This tends to happen when I have not used the car for a few days or when I locked the doors using the drivers door lock switch. Once I figured this out, I no longer have to press and hold both buttons to resynch it.

THIS IS 100% correct. Mine does the same thing. I thought maybe by hiding my keys only 3 or 4 feet from the car would keep it from any programming losses. But it still sometimes needs a few buttons pushed a couple 3 times (thats what she says!!), and it starts functioning again. Go figure......
I finally got this to work. I ended up being able to re-pair the second original key fob, I think it has something to do with the stored pairing order of the fobs on the remote function actuation module. It finally accepted the second original fob, I never bothered trying to re-pair that one because I had gotten a new one. The other original one wont pair and the new one still wont pair, though. Ill take at least one working. Thanks guys!
