HELP..............I have a C-5 2000 Vette and my problem is...............Key fob deprograms when the car sits for more than 8 hours. At the same time...The MPG computer readout goes to zero when the engine is started. Battery is less than 2 years old and all positive & negative terminals are tight & clean. Is this a DIC problem? This may be a different problem, but the engine temp goes to 240 when stuck in stop & go traffic. I replaced the fan assembly, thermostat, engine sensor for the fans & cleaned the radiator & A/C coils. All this started happening at the same time. Coolant never boils over and never is low in the overflow tank. But the gauge on the dash & the computer engine temp match, so doesn't seem to be an electrical issue. I'm the original owner, have done several fine cosmetic upgrades & the car runs like new with only 62k- miles. I hope someone can help...Thank you.
Age of the battery doesn't necessarily indicate it is still good. Take it to AutoZone and have it load tested.
As for the idle temps, have you ever cleaned the AC condenser and the radiator. You'd be surprised how much gravel and dirt can accumulate in 62k miles.
These cars run hot , I believe the fans don't kick on till around 235 or so, try turning the ac on in traffic this will start the fans
Yes I know. I'm original owner and temp never went above 220 till 3 months ago even on a 95 degree summer day. It's winter & it will sometimes go to 240 when stuck in traffic at 35 degrees outside. First fan goes on at 216 and 2nd fan at 226. Fans go on high with the A/C on or at 235 and that lowers the temp, but after 23 years of never rising above 220, I have a problem somewhere. If you have addt'l insight I'd love to hear it....but thank you very much for getting back to me.
You will likely get more replies suggesting you have air in the system but it sounds like everything started going bad and then you changed out parts and coolant. Have you noticed any bubbling of coolant to suggest a blown head gasket?
Do you have an infrared temperature device? If so, get your car to that high temperature condition and point the infrared at the thermostat housing or maybe an aluminum line from the heater core. If it says 220-230 you know your temperature senor is probably right. If it says 180-190 then your signal might not be right. They are quite inexpensive and will give you a good idea if your temperature is really 240 degrees or is the signal coming from the temperature sensor being interpreted as 240 degrees. Over the last year or two there have been a few Forum members who thought they had various bad sensors but it turned out to be bad wiring or a bad connector. Perhaps reach out to Bill Curlee or C5Diag and ask how to check your temperature sensor, wiring and connector.

Very good advice....Thank you. As for the coolant, when the therm was changed, system was flushed & burped multiple times. No sign of any coolant bubbling out around the head gasket. Coolant level in the overflow is always full to the top. I will definetly check temp. with an infrared sensor.
With mine... it was filthy fluid and road crapola stuck and blocking airflow thru the two radiators. Disassemble, clean and replace coolant with new stuff.... Not an easy job but you gotta do it.
