While pulling the injectors out of my old manifold one of the brown plastic washers broke in half. Are these needed and if so where can I get just it, or do I have to buy an injector in order to get it? TIA
Sorry, was looking at the photos while on the phone, lost too much detail. Plus, my most recent injector experience was on a '99 Triumph and the original O-rings split and fell apart in almost an identical pattern as your bushings. Lame excuse for my lame response.
No worries. The parts stores do have the o rings, but no washers. I found a reseal kit on ebay that has a full set of rings and the washers, even the little filters baskets. Woo Hoo!
IDK how much it costs for a reseal kit. But TSC has/had quite a large selection of plastic washers, if it is a plastic washer you're looking for. The ones I've seen have all been white nylatron. Don't know if the sizes will interface. Just throwing this out there. Perhaps an electrical supply, or Graingers will have what you need. Can you tell I've never changed one?!!
I thought of that however they are not flat washers, the have a little flange around the ID to support the o ring I suppose. They are supposed to be delivered today however they are not in the mailbox as the USPS claims they are.....
I did some late night investigating. Turns out the "washer" is called a pintle cap and is used for a couple of reasons. One is to retain the o ring to keep from it getting stuck in the manifold when the injector is removed. It also serves as a heat shield for the actual o ring. Of course there are several types depending on the injector and make of vehicle. Our LS1 uses a Bosch type 3 injector and there are several different pintle caps available for them. Ours uses what is called a "flat" pintle cap. Getting them off is easy as it just requires breaking or cutting it off. Putting them on is somewhat of a bitch, heating them with a heat gun makes it easier, also they go on before the o ring, it is stretched over the cap once the cap is installed. More info to come as I get into this.
I broke the pintle cap on the fuel rail side of one of my injectors. I decided to reuse it anyway as there's an injector clip that holds things in place. No leaks so far.
However let me know where you find them, i may be tempted to fix them if the price is right next time i have my fuel rail off.
If is was the one at the rail I would do that as well. However it is the other end at the manifold, I envision the broken part going into the intake port. I suppose I could take the manifold off to do it.
