Default C5 tire search.

Brand new to the forum and my C5. 17 year old Michelin Pilots on my stock ZO6... I want to run American made tires, summer only, street only, and wonder if Michelins are over priced. Anybody have any experience with Mickey Thompsons?

Yes, of course Michelin's are overpriced. But, so are Continentals, Pirellis, Good Years, Yokohamas and etc. They are all stupidly expensive.

OP, don't let the $$$ deter you. 17 year old tires are TOTALLY unsafe........

Agreed, I'm willing to spend what it takes but don't want to regret a purchase. I've seen Mickey Thompson's perform well off road but have no experience with their street tires. I hope someone on this forum can enlighten me.

Any tire made in Japan. My favorite tire is the indy firehawk. I've had a set for 20 years just sitting on a car. I just make sure they have good ratings on tire rack and made in Japan. Chinese tires are inferior.

I’m a Bridgestone fan. Bridgestone potenza sports have never failed me at HPDE or regular driving. I’m also a fan of General Tire. I would have tried those Mickey Thompson street tires, they don’t have the sizes I’m looking for.

275 35 18 front
305 30 19 rear.

current running Bridgestone pole position tires,
generals on my daily drivers.

No experience with Mickey Thompsons but I do know Michelins pretty well. Yes, they are expensive but for a good reason. Michelin has several features in their tires that most other brands do not, hence the higher cost. As the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. I would NOT recommend any brand of run flat tire. They are noisy and I think they ride terrible.

I love my Continental Extreme Contact DWS
Smooth, quiet ride with good traction.
Have 28,000 miles on them and they look brand new.
This is a Florida car --- no cold weather

I have the Continental Extreme Contacts and in 44 years of driving, I've never seen or felt a better tire.

I’ve never ridden on those tires.

I have Michelin stock tires on my Lexus GX 460 and have taken them on a pretty gnarly trail while rock crawling. They do everything so well that it defies belief - highway drives, off-road, hard corners, snow.

They are amazing as well.

I’d bet Pilot Sport Summers are terrific, but I know for a fact they are as expensive as tires get. The Continental line is definitely mid-priced and a crazy bargain for what you get.

$1200 and some change really isn’t that great of a bargain.

I did, and they were good tires. I'm disappointed that Michelin discontinued them. (and yes, they were RFs)

I don’t think they made the pilot sport summer tires in run flats. Only the all season.

CURRENTLY, yes, but in the past, the made the Pilot Sports in RF. As I said, I had a set of them.....in fact, they're on the car now, mounted on my OE rims, for winter storage duty.

gotcha. I never liked run flats. Rubber compound is just too different.

I put Mickey Thompsons on my C5 Coupe last summer and I love them I had Firehawks but they lacked the grip I wanted the MT"S grip like glue. However the ride isn't as smooth. Not terrible but a bit bumpy. I got them at Summit Racing and they were $200 less than the best quotes from Goodyear, Firestone, etc. They are extremely sticky and the mileage rating is low because of that. If your C5 is a daily driver you may not want the Mickey's. I average about 100 miles a month so mileage rating is no concern.
