So this is interesting, I tried the simplest suggestion first which is checking if the DIC lights up and if the buttons are stuck. I pried the buttons out and the DIC is lit but, when I push the buttons that I can see with a flat head that part of the cluster dims, when I install the buttons and push them in that doesn't dim? I am not sure if these are the same buttons that should get pushed when I push the physical ones in? I noticed there are only 3 of those vertically.

Turn key on, clear any messages in the DIC by using reset button until it is blank. Push and hold options button down. While holding options button down, press and release fuel button 4 times within 10 seconds. Codes, if any, will come up in DIC. Do a search on clearing C5 codes for more info. GM will NEVER build another car with onboard diagnostics. Oh BTW, you'll become very adept at using this function as time goes by, trust me!!!
