A few weeks ago my oil pressure sensor failed on my 2003 coupe. I did some online searching and there appears to be a lot of mixed opinions and information on how to change it yourself.
Is there a definitive source somewhere that shows the proper procedure? I don't want to cut a hole in the windshield cowl, and it looks like I have several small hoses/lines in the way where some videos depict using a universal joint and socket to get back to it. Is it best to just remove the intake?
https://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=5 Follow these steps to remove your intake manifold. It is not very hard. Once the manifold is removed, your oil pressure sender will be right there waiting for you.
While you’re there have a look at the right bank air pump valve it’s stuck between the intake and the firewall and it’s impossible to replace without removing the intake
Be advised there are some things to be removed that are difficult to see. It helps to have an extension mirror and a bright flashlight. On the driver side there is a 3/4”-ish size rubber tube that you need to pull off the brake booster. On the passenger side, dead behind the manifold you need to reach around and feel for a 1/8”-ish hose with a 90° fitting; grab that and pull it off. Right above that is an electrical plug that you need to pull out.
Have your replacement parts on hand ready to go.
You’ll need an inch pound torque wrench to reinstall the manifold. First pass 44 inch lb, final pass 89 inch lb. Pull a torque sequence diagram off the net.
I found this tool on Amazon. Quality piece and very handy for the various inch pound screws on your C5.
