Both of my key fobs stopped working. I read here about pressing both the lock / unlock buttons for about 10 seconds to reprogram. I did that and it worked for both key fobs. My problem is that when I walk away for a few minutes, the fobs won’t work. I have to reprogram them every time. (New batteries were put in) Any insight would be appreciated.
I have the same issue except they g out of program after a few days. I jus left them out. Sorry for the no solution post. They just seem to go away with age.
Had my C5 for a year now and same exact problem. Both fobs seem to lose sync with the car after a few days. I read somewhere on this forum that if you go through the learn process in the DIC and set up your existing fobs as if they are new fobs that can fix the problem. Haven’t had a chance to try it yet but if i do I’ll report back if someone else hasn’t already provided the fix.

Have you tried pressing the lock button first? I find that when my fobs don’t respond to the unlock, I press the lock and then it will recognize the unlock.
A second thing I’ve noticed. It seems like it fails to recognize my unlock when I had used the door power lock button to lock the doors as I was exiting the car rather than the fob.
I see that you have a 2000 like me. I recommend upgrading your tpms system to the -01 to -04 style as they vastly upgraded the key fob range and the key fobs are dirt cheap.

Interesting, I’ve tried that and it worked. It what I found was that I need to be right next to the vehicle. Otherwise it won’t work. So I guess over the years, the remotes have lost the long range capability.
I had this same problem after a battery change. What I did to fix mine was turn the ignition to "on" but didn't start the car. Then did held the lock/unlock 10 seconds thing until the horn honked. Problem went away.
"Lock and unlock buttons"? On my fob, it doesn't indicate "lock and unlock" just a single, grey button. Remember, I did mention I have a convertible, where the fob is different than the coupe.

Pressing the Lock and then Unlock buttons did help the Forum member who asked for help in this thread.
