I bought an ‘04 Z06 that had some front end damage. I finally have all of the bits and pieces to put it back together. I just noticed that one of the nut inserts in the frame for the skid plate is missing.
Other than grinding it flat and welding the skid plate to the frame (can I even weld aluminum to steel?), I’m at a loss.
Its pretty simple. Just get the proper insert for the bolt. You can use the proper instalation tool for the "zert" or, look on YouTube for dozens of ways to install it without buying the specific tool.

I’m guessing you didn’t look at the picture. It’s not quite that simple in this situation.
I’m just going to weld a plate to the frame with a nut welded to the plate.
Post #1 you state you are at a loss. Then in post #3 you chastised “60 Shark” for his suggestion and have also committed to fixing the issue in your manner. Good luck with the repair but keep in mind you asked for help and it was given.

Actually the op is on the right track. I welded a 3x3x1/8 inch plate to that corner and installed the proper nutsert into the plate along with three 1/8 inch wasners on the other 3 corners to make the cradle sit level

I got advice and committed to my repair in the 4 hours between my initial post and seeing his response.
Mods: please close this thread. The problem has been figured out. Grind it flat, weld a nut to a plate. Weld the plate to the frame. Move on to the next problem.
Well,, I was thinking you were not welding aluminum to steel. And you could reposition a nut, or nuts for the repair. Yes, welding steel to steel is a simple repair. Sorry for the confusing reply. I'm shure from your comments you'll handle it well. Enjoy the rebuild.....
