Recently, rusty dust has been showing up in my exhaust tips. This is a new one on me…
This past winter I swapped the cam, heads, water pump, hoses, etc…and disconnected the AIR system... When I first started the car it was spitting out rusty water and steam, but that went away after some driving and getting the tune.
It’s not nasty like at first when it actually corroded the polished tips, but I still get a small amount of rusty powder. Has me stumped.
Are you suggesting coolant is coming out the OP's exhaust?
If so, wouldn't the proper course of action be diagnose the leak and fix it?
I agree. BUT-OP-Engines do emit water vapor as a byproduct of combustion. You'll find that until the ehaust is hot enough to burn it off, it will manifest at the tips as liquid. I suspect the OP isn't running cats. This situation greatly affected the early Honda and Kawasaki 4 cylinder motorcycle engines with 4 individual mufflers. The small displacement of each cylinder wouldn't heat the pipes very fast, and many, including me, saw their mufflers rust thru from the inside out within a year or two. One reason you won't find 4 mufflers on any bikes anymore. FWIW....

Remember when the baffles broke off and were rattling around and you had to grind out the spark arresters so you had a hole big enough to reach in there with a tool and pull them out? What a pain.
