I'd like to hear what the Chevy Customer Service account has in mind.
Contact them via the method they posted and let us know if they just suggest a local dealer or what.
The slipring could be checked with a multimeter measuring resistanse and the slipring may need som cleaning (contact cleaner) or som careful bending to provide more sliping press on the ignition key .
New ignition switches does not have the same quality as they used to have . Keep this video in mind if problems still appear after replacing the ignition switch
1. Electric auto Tech is ordering a replacement ignition switch. This will be number 3
2 Electric auto Tech says it is not VATS because the security light does not flash when the car won't start.
3. Most importantly, I discovered that the car seems to start on the first try if I turn and hold the key for 2-10 seconds. this is no noise at all, just fires up eventually.

VATS bypass fixed my 02.
Before that I had Installed a new Standard brand starter relay # RY282, same as GM # 12177233, in passenger side footwell, and new ignition switch Genuine GM# 10308321. Those didn't fix it
Will share the ideas proposed with the electric technician, thanks to all!
Hi folks, GM assumed that I was working with a dealer, so when I told them I was not, they stated that they could only offer assistance by contacting a dealer. So that was a dead end.
Electric tech ordered another OEM replacement ignition switch, hopefully, the 3rd time is the charm.
I going to ask him to bypass the VAT even if only as a preventative measure since he will have the dash off and it is one less thing I have to worry about in the future
The VATS bypass can be done by soldering resistors on the BCM connector, if you ever want to restore VATS in the future you won't have to tear the dash apart.

Thanks, I'm having the VAT bypass done by the tech now as a preventative measure.
He just confirmed that 2nd new OEM switch from Chevy is bad , hopefully the 3rd wont be a bust as well.
He is also installing a button start feature as a backup if and when the ignition switch goes bad again.
Made in China switches, several owners have had to buy several switches before they get a working one. It's very easy to disasmble the contact block and bend the contact blade.
After a lot of trial and error, I can now confirm what others mentioned, that the new OEM replacement ignition switches are absolute crap. My electronics guy had replaced 3 units that all died within a month of installation and we gave up and purchased a used original part, and now all is well. It's criminal that GM is allowed to sell these. Hopefully, this will help someone else in the future.
For those interested, the technician shared these enlightening Amazon reviews
Where did you buy these “OEM” ignition switches ??…if off Amazon that’s your first mistake…I would never buy anything electrical off Amazon even if the package says AC Delco.
02 Coupe auto w/79k miles
In Dec 2023 and 10k miles ago I installed a new ignition switch - amazon Genuine GM# 10308321, $140. Still going strong.
I cleaned up the contacts in the original and have it as a spare.

They were all purchased at my local Chevy dealership, but my mechanic did some research and said these were the same, and showed me the Amazon reviews, but good to know for the future.
It seems like this ignitionswitch all we can get .
I can recommed to look through this video if a new switch fail and do what this guy does when he repair his new China ignitionswitch
