Here is your starting circiut below
When you turn ignition key the Body Control Module verify the key resistor in your ignitionkey .
If it is ok the BCM ground the A1 side of the Theft Deterent Relay internaly (se drawing)
The relay contact between C1 and A2 get closed and let 12 volt from Maxi fuse 52 go to the starter along the Purple wire(se drawing and photo .
Measure the voltage level on both C2 ,C1 ;A1 and A2 when you have a no start condtion .
Close to the doorstep of passenger side you have good ground refrence for your measurements (see last photo )
If you took the car to a mechanic I'm assuming this is something you are not going to diagnose yourself...99.99% of "mechanics" don't know how to diagnose cars...find a diagnostic Tech or an auto electric shop in your area !!...where are you located ??
Correct, I possess no auto-troubleshooting skills, thanks for the great suggestion about the diagnostic or electrictech. I didn't think of that.
I live in Pottstown PA, suburban Philadelphia,
A friend and former coworker of mine has an auto electric shop in Stroudsburg PA…about 1 1/2 away from you if you want him to diagnose it…I have sent a few Forum members there for diagnostics.
Hi all, have a strange one that has my mechanic stumped.
Turn the key, car won't start 90% of the. time, but everything else works fine, power windows, stereo, lights etc
Car will start once in a blue moon on some days but not others. Turn key no noise at all.
work performed to try to fix.
New ignition swtich
Rebuilt Body Control module
New battery.
Also tried moving in and out of gear.
Desperate and now broke. Any suggestions would be appreciated :-)
Update - thank you all for your suggestions. I am new to the forum and found it amazing how many people are willing to help. Thanks again
Unfortunately, I am not mechanically inclined but many of you offered great suggestions to share with whomever I work with next to get this resolved.
I just had the key checked by a Chevy parts guy and it seems ok, but i ordered a new one as I only had one to begin with. He thought the problem may be the ignition control cylinder gone bad ???
The sliping should be checked using a multimeter. To verdifull if the keyresistor has good contact with sliping. Slipring may need to be bent to provide better contact😀
It could be many things causing your cars no start problem, from the contacts in the Ignition switch not sending out the 12v start power that makes its way to the Park safety switch or the clutch safety switch depending on automatic or standard. The TDR is always the place to start troubleshooting when having a no crank problem. It is the relay that sends power to energize the starter. The TDR must have 12v and ground on the relay coil and it must have 12v battery power to send down to the starter when the key is turned to the start position.

I found a highly-rated electrical auto shop 5 minutes from my home, he said he can't troubleshoot if it doesn't fail to turn over while in his shop, so I am cautiously optimistic. I'm praying it doesn't start while he has it next week. .

UPATE : Hi guys, the electrical shop determined that the problem was a faulty ignition switch, which is annoying because my normal mechanic replaced it months ago. Anyway, the car started up fine for 2 weeks and now it only starts on the 2nd attempt every time like clockwork. ex turn the key nothing, turn it again fires up right away. so I have replaced the ignition switch twice, new battery and had a new BCM installed, I guess the next thing is to have the slip ring checked and the ignition cylinder replaced. Any thoughts? Thanks, guys !!
