PCV filter mod - which is right - filter before PCV or PCV before filter?
Hey gang, I've got the PCV mod installed on my car, and I've got the filter before the PCV valve. The tubing worked out great this way, and it seemed like a natural fit. I've heard from other forum members that the filter should be installed after the PCV valve.
To me, I can't see why it would make a difference, but maybe I need a bit of education on this topic. Does anyone know if it matters where the filter is in relation to the PCV valve? I wouldn't think it matters as long as the filter comes after the motor and before the intake.
Here's some pics of what I did:
I've checked several sets of pics, and I've seen it done both ways, just looking for what is the right way, if it even matters.

I think it should go AFTER the PCV valve. After the PCV valve & BEFORE the intake to absorb any oil that gets pulled thru the PCV valve was my understanding...
Here in my pic, look at the 11 o'clock position and going to the right, you will see where I connected the tubing to the PCV valve, and then to the filter, then back to the intake. I think this is what most guys have done.
I believe the intent of the mod is to collect any oil from vapors passing thru the pcv valve. Not sure if its only for guys having an oil comsumption issue, or for guys who run their car hard, or as a prevent from oil entering the intake.
I don't have any oil comsumption issues, but did it as a preventative measure since I plan on running my car at the track pretty often..

That's cool. Thanks for the reply. I'm going to switch mine over and see if it makes any difference. I have been collecting a small amount of oil installed the way it is shown in the pics I posted, above. I'll see if there is any difference by having the PCV before the filter instead of after. I'll post back in a week or so to report my findings.

Ideally, between the pcv and the intake, though it shouldn't make any difference, given other pcv valves I've seen (I've not looked at the C-5). For example, there is always some pressure (vacuum, in this case) drop through a filter, but pcv valves I've seen take very little to seat and operate correctly.
Also, I cannot read the notes on the pix of the original post; too small, even on my 19" monitor.
By the way, why all the extra hose? Why not get appropriate fittings and/or hard line and do it more neatly? No slam, just curious. Looks "ragged." If I do mine I'll post pix.
